LivePair over Starlink and satellite internet
A live AI session sounds like it needs a perfect connection. Ours doesn't — it was built for the kind of links people actually have when it counts: satellite, mobile hotspots, hotel Wi-Fi behind carrier NAT.
Why satellite links don't break it
Your device sends observation windows — JPEG frames plus compressed audio, roughly once a second — as ordinary HTTPS POSTs. There are no inbound connections to punch through, no peer-to-peer handshake, no ports to forward. Carrier-grade NAT, the thing that breaks so many apps on Starlink, only blocks inbound traffic; LivePair never asks for any.
Latency doesn't matter the way it does for gaming either. The agent works in second-scale windows of observation, so a 25–60 ms round trip — or the occasional 100 ms spike during a satellite handoff — is invisible to it.
When the link drops
Satellite handoffs and congested cells drop packets — that's expected, so the session tracks observation gaps explicitly. The agent is told which windows never arrived instead of silently assuming nothing happened, and it picks the stream back up when the link returns.
The result: a dropout produces 'I lost three seconds just now' rather than a hallucinated answer built on missing frames.
Bandwidth and voice
The uplink is modest — small image frames and audio bursts, well inside the 5–20 Mbps upload a healthy Starlink or LTE connection provides. The session degrades gracefully on sub-megabit uplinks rather than failing outright: fewer useful frames, same loop.
Voice runs over the same outbound connection as the rest of the session — no special network setup, works over Starlink and carrier NAT. On networks that block voice traffic entirely, the visual session keeps running — the companion keeps watching and answering through the page.
What you don't need
No app install — sessions run in a browser on a desktop or Android device, and the Joy Alive companion mode is built for phones held at arm's length. No VPN, no static IP, no router access. If you can load this page on a desktop or Android browser, you can run a session — iOS Safari runs camera-only sessions in beta.
The honest limit
This architecture gives you awareness at conversational speed — a second pair of eyes that notices and speaks. It is not a reflex system and not a guarantee of safety; a callout takes a second, not a millisecond. On any link.
